In this training session, participants gained more knowledge on innovative startup ecosystems, along with corresponding policies of the metropolitan authorities, potential issues arisen when using state budget in startup activities, experience on supporting the incubation activity, limits and chances for startup projects in Vietnam when being launched in a large scale.

Taking part in this event were more than 30 individuals who are responsible for creative ideas for innovative startups, or managers of common space and centers, directors of boosting programs to incubate entrepreneurs and innovative startups, policy makers related to creative innovation, economy development, as well as investors or business people who are going to build a specific ecosystem for the community.

In a related event, the HCMC Department of Science and Technology has just cooperated with the HCMC University of Technology (HUTECH) to organize a conference themed ‘Young lecturers – Students with Innovation, Scientific Research, and Startup Activities’.

In this conference, Dr. Nguyen Hai An, Director of the SHTP-IC stated that many people are mistaking the concepts of innovative startup and setting up a new business. The former requires innovation and breakthroughs to create novel items in the market, or to improve existing products. Advanced technology plays a great role in this process, which has become one symbol any startup product. As a result, startup businesses need various factors like creative capability, capital, patience, professional knowledge, business administration skills, and soft skills.

In 2018, the HCMC Department of Science and Technology has collaborated with many units as well as universities in the city to launch several startup contests like Startup Wheel 2018 themed ‘Innovation in Agriculture Based on Advanced Technology’, CiC 2018, or Business Ideas 2018. In particular, the program to support startup projects ‘SpeedUp’ of this department has offered a chance for suitable candidates to receive up to VND2 billion (approx. $85,805).
