Invention Competition 2018 extends deadline

The Ministry of Science and Technology has just announced the extension to the submission for the Invention Competition 2018 until the end of January 31, 2019.

Invention Competition 2018 extends deadline

As stated by the organization board, this extension offers more opportunities for various units and individuals to further investigate necessary information and perfect their papers in accordance with the competition rules.

Related activities to deliver guidance or consultation to contestants are still being held until the above deadline.

The competition, themed ‘Technological Inventions for Daily Life’, encourages innovation to create practical technical solutions that are easily applicable and money-saving for daily activities, contributing to the social-economic development of the nation.

This competition is jointly organized by the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (NOIP), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).

In Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), a similar competition has been held by the HCMC Department of Science and Technology since 2008 to promote intellectual property protection in the city. This contest and other related activities are a major factor to increase the number of invention registration requests of HCMC. Until now, there have been 14,789 invention patents, including 13,686 trademark and 776 industrial design registration requests.

In the period between 2016 – 2020, HCMC has achieved its goal of increasing the average quantity of invention registration to 400 requests per year, compared to the rate of 200 per year in the 2011 – 2015 time. It also reached the aim of raising the number of invention patents in HCMC from 50 pieces per year in 2015 to 100 per year in 2020.
