Shevchenko missed Tuesday's Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Liverpool because of the problem.
However, the Blues are hopeful that the 30-year-old Ukrainian will feature for them before the campaign finishes.
A statement on the club website confirmed: "We are hopeful he will be available between now and the end of the season."
Ahead of the European showdown with Liverpool, the Stamford Bridge outfit were forced to deny reports that Shevchenko refused to travel to Anfield.
A Chelsea statement read: "He suffered an injury in training on Sunday and it was decided afterwards that he was not fit to play against Liverpool."
Chelsea, who now only have an outside chance of clinching the title, still have to play Arsenal, leaders Manchester United and Everton in the Premiership.
The Blues are also set to face United in the FA Cup final on 19 May.
