Gymnastics: Vault queen Izbasa claims Romania's second gold

BERLIN, April 9, 2011 (AFP) - Romania's Sandra Izbasa won the final of the women's vault at the European gymnastics championships on Saturday with Germany's Oksana Chusovitina winning silver and Swiss Ariella Kaeslin bronze.

The 20-year-old, who won gold in the floor exercise at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, won the vault at Berlin's Max Schmeling Halle with a winning tally of 14,675 pts.

Ever-green Chusovitina, 35, who won Olympic team gold back at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games competing for the unified Russia, claimed silver with 14,537 pts while Kaeslin, 23, of Switzerland scored 14,475 pts to take bronze.

This was Romania's second gold medal of the day after Flavius Koczi earlier took gold in the men's floor exercise having won silver in the all-around event on Friday.
