I may work in Vietnam: Fabio Cannavaro

International Italian football star Fabio Cannavaro landed in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday morning, for an exchange with Vietnamese fans within the framework of a Vietnam sponsored “Meeting with legends”.

Fabio Cannavaro (with pen in hand) signs autographs for Vietnamese fans on arrival at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCMC yesterday.
Fabio Cannavaro has played for famous clubs such as Inter Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid and was considered the best all-time defender.  He was a World Cup champion and winner of the Best Player of the World in 2006.

The former center defender is scheduled to stay in HCMC from January 6-8 at the invitation of Eximbank, who sponsored the event.

“I am surprised at the enthusiastic welcome of Vietnamese fans. I can’t imagine that they love football and admire me like that. I am happy with it,” Cannavaro told reporters after witnessing thousands of fans and local media waiting for him at Tan Son Nhat Airport.

“My best moment is certainly the 2006 World Cup Champion title. The most sorrowful memory is the runner up to Euro2000 Cup…”

“I may one day agree to work in Vietnam though now I have stopped playing soccer”, replied Fabio Cannavaro when asked if he is invited to lead Vietnam’s national team or a Vietnam football club.

Former Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro met with fans at the HCMC Youth Cultural House on morning of Jan 7.

On the afternoon of the same day, the 2006 Player of the Year will watch the match between Saigon FC and Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC for the second round of Vietnam Football Championship.

Besides, he is expected to take part in a series of activities including a training session with a junior team and a fan meeting during his three-day visit here.
