Nguyen Tien Minh wins Australia Open badminton tournament

World No.6 badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam won the Yonex Australia Open Grand Prix in Melbourne on Sunday, securing his first tournament win of the year.

In the men’s singles final, the Vietnamese ace gained his straight-game win over Malaysia’s Yogendran Krishnan as he had done one day earlier over India Open champion Alamsyah Yunus of Indonesia.

The top Vietnamese badminton player cruised past Krishnan 21-14 and 21-11.

The 25-year-old became the first Vietnamese Olympian badminton player at the Beijing Games two years ago.

Last year, the Ho Chi Minh City athlete recorded a shock victory against world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the Aviva Singapore Super Series.
