The Robot Viet Nam Badminton Challenge 2007 will be staged at Ho Chi Minh City’s Phan Dinh Phung Stadium from May 23 to 27.

The total winnings of this year’s tournament are worth US$15,000, attracting 263 players including 208 from Japan, Australia, Iran, Scotland, England, Italy, Singapore, China, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Korea, Cambodia and Ireland.
Viet Nam has 55 players, including 29 men and 26 women. All competitors will compete in five categories: men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
The men’s singles champion will be awarded US$2,000, while the best women’s singles player will receive US$1,300. In addition, an award of US$1,350 will go to the men’s doubles champions, while champions of the women’s doubles and mixed doubles each will be given US$1,150. Winners of the competition will also be awarded Badminton World Federation’s points.
Vietnamese defending champion Nguyen Tien Minh will face serious challenges from many strong rivals, including world’s 19th-ranked Roslim Hashim from Malaysia, 41st Poompat from Thailand, 47th Kidd from England, 48th Chun Seang Tan from Malaysia and 66th Klaus Raffeiner.
