Prices of pork remain at high levels

C.P Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company sold pigs at VND81,000 per kilogram on July 7. According to the Dong Nai Livestock Association, at small-scale farms and pig-farming households, pigs were sold at VND89,000-VND90,000 per kilogram, up VND2,000-VND3,000 per kilogram compared to a few days ago; as for premium pigs, the price was VND93,000 per kilogram.

Assuming that the current prices of pork remain at high levels because farms and farming households are still selling pigs at VND73,000-VND78,000 per kilogram although 15 livestock enterprises have reduced their prices to VND70,000 per kilogram, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on April 8 issued a dispatch, calling for them to join hands in reducing pork prices.

Total pig herd remains at around 25 million pigs

The prices of pork have been skyrocketing, forcing several families to replace pork by poultry meat. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assured that the shortage of pork was merely around 200,000 tons, while other sources forecast a shortage of 500,000 tons of pork.
