In recent days, the export prices of Vietnamese rice have continued to top rice exporting countries, surpassing those of Thailand, India, and Pakistan. Typically, on January 22, the export price was at US$523 per ton for five-percent broken rice, $498 per ton for 25-percent broken rice, and $438 per ton for 100-percent broken rice. Last year, the export prices of Vietnamese rice also took the highest position many times.

Supermodel, producer and actress Jessica Minh Anh will represent Vietnam in a short film to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Paris Agreement on Climate Change, featuring 20 celebrities from around the world, including artists, sportsmen and politicians.

As one of the cities affected by climate change, Ho Chi Minh City has for many years been making plans to cope with it.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment reported that different kinds of natural disasters in Vietnam create around 1.5 percent of GDP loss each year. This rate is predicted to grow in the future unless there are sound national solutions to cope with climate changes soon.

Understanding that Vietnam is one of the most heavily suffered countries of climate change, the Government has already introduced the national adaptation plan to this environmental issue in the period from 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has, therefore, prepared its own solutions to successfully carry out this plan, ensuring both social security and sustainable development.

Until now, Vietnam has finished its program to cope with climate change, creating a strong foundation for the observation of national commitments to the Paris Agreement, including reducing 8 percent of greenhouse gases from 2020 – 2030 or 25 percent with the aid of international organizations. In order to carry out this program, Vietnam needs the cooperation of all domestic resources.

Because Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern region has officially entered the rainy and stormy season, tropical downpour and thunderstorm situation are getting more and more serious.  

The European Union (EU) and the French Development Agency (AFD) have reached an agreement to strengthen their joint cooperation for increasing Vietnam’s resilience to climate change and natural hazards, and trying to ease the impact of COVID-19 in the Southeast Asian country.
