As revenues from traditional telecoms services like calls, SMS, and Internet provision are significantly affected due to price competitions, giant telecoms enterprises in Vietnam such as VNPT, Viettel, and MobiFone have decided to turn to digital technologies for more profits.

HCMC to develop more 5G-related applications

After the successful launch of 5G piloting programs in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) by Vietnam’s three major mobile network providers, namely Viettel, VinaPhone, and MobiFone, there comes the demand for useful 5G-related applications for smart devices. SGGP Newspaper conducted an interview with Deputy Director of the HCMC Department of Information and Communications Le Quoc Cuong about how to answer this need.

Viettel has already piloted 5G commercial services in some areas in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Information and Communications last year approved the 5G pilot schemes of the three largest domestic mobile network carriers, namely Viettel, VNPT and MobiFone in the four major cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh (HCMC), Da Nang, and Hai Phong. This decision was an effort to promote 5G technology development in Vietnam. This year, more piloting projects for 5G services will be carried out throughout the country.
