Sri Lanka supports flood-hit victims in central region

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Vietnam Prasanna Gamage on November 9 handed VND66.5 million (US$2,860) donated by Sri Lanka people living in Vietnam to support flood-hit people in the central region.
Tens of thousands of houses are submerged underwater after heavy flooding in Le Thuy District in Quang Binh Province. Fishermen of fishing villages in Ngu Thuy Commune sail their boats to rescue local people.

People nationwide extends solidarity with flood victims

Consecutive storms with heavy rains causing serious floods and landslides have hit the central region. As of October 24 evening, the natural disaster killed 119 lives, and left 21 others missing, destroyed thousands of houses and caused a big loss of property of local residents.

The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control held this morning an urgent meeting to carry out searching and rescue missions at Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant landslide in Thua Thien- Hue Province as well as verify, approach the landslide site at the Defense Economics Division 337 under the Military Region 4 of the Vietnam People's Army.

According to a report of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, at least 63 victims in Vietnam’s central provinces were washed away by floodwater following prolonged torrential downpours by the morning of October 16.
