In spite of practicing social distancing to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic from further spreading; major traffic infrastructure projects in HCMC have been under construction with all officials, workers and contractors trying to not only ensure anti-pandemic requirements according to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines but also build these projects on schedule.
After a period of construction in moderation and even halt because of capital disbursement difficulties, two particularly important projects in HCMC have been restarted and on the way to the finish line comprising Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line and VND10 trillion (US$429.78 million) anti-flooding project.
Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong and his deputy Tran Vinh Tuyen yesterday inspected the construction site of the first metro line, Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien, in efforts to solve difficulties for the project to be built on schedule by 2020.
Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has required the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Transport, HCMC People’s Committee and relevant agencies to seriously implement the instruction by the Politburo to increase the total investment capital of the first and second metro lines, Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien and Ben Thanh-Tham Luong.

The first rail track stretch from Binh Thai crossroads to Hanoi Highway flyover of Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line will be installed on October 23, announced director of the project Duong Huu Hoa.
The HCMC Management Board of Urban Railway yesterday said that the first underground metro stretch, from Ba Son station to Saigon Opera House, of Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line will be built on October 31.
The HCMC People’s Committee has proposed the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance to use official assistance development (ODA) funds for urgent projects in the city.
