Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Party Committee, People’s Committee, HCMC People’s Council, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of HCMC yesterday held a meeting with the overseas Vietnamese on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.
Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Tong Thi Phong called at the Vietnamese Embassy in Canberra and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Australia on January 12.
In the first nine months of this year, overseas remittances to Ho Chi Minh City via commercial banks and economic institutions were estimated at around US$3.8 billion, an increase of 7 percent over the same period last year.
According to the State Bank of Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City Branch, overseas remittances to the city were estimated to reach US$3.45 billion in the first eight months of this year and are expected to exceed $5 billion this year.
