City sees surge in foreign tourists during Tet holidays

The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in Ho Chi Minh City said that the number of foreign visitors to the City during Lunar New Year holidays showed an increase by eight percent this year compared to the same period last year.

JTB Company saw an increase of 30 percent in foreign visitors, mostly from Japan; Saigontourist saw a 14 percent increase of mostly European tourists; while other companies like Viettravel, Ben Thanh, Fiditour, Hoa Binh Vietnam, and Apex saw an average increase of 5-10 percent.

The City tourist agencies said that their revenues from foreign visitors climbed by seven percent compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, international tours also attracted a huge number of tourists with an increase of 10 percent in numbers and 9 percent in revenues over the previous year.

Saigontourist saw the highest increase of 45 percent, while Viettravel, Ben Thanh, and Fiditour posted an average increase of 8-12 percent.
