According to the Hoi An’s Department of Culture and Information, the town had 645 hotels with 10,545 rooms by the end of 2018, including 302 homestays providing 1,187 rooms that accounted for 11.5 percent of the total number of rooms in the town. In 2018, the homestay sector received 84,655 visitors, showing a low capacity of rooms.
Although most of the homestay accommodations have equipped with comfortable facilities, but they have not seen a high rate of occupancy yet. Tourists’ average length of stay is 2.21 days, earning a turnover of 0.33 of the total revenue in the city.
The construction growth of homestay in the province creates the unstable price and service competition. In addition, unattractive advertisement and poor tourist products are also reasons why this sector does not draw visitors, said president of the Hoi An Homestay Association, Le Ngoc Thuan.
According to Deputy head of the Hoi An city’s Culture-Information Agency, Pham Thi Ngoc Dung, most of the service’s owners have not met registration and obligation requirements for for starting a homestay that contributes to the poor reputation in the city’s tourist accommodations.
