Vietnam Airlines Buys Another Airbus

Vietnam Airlines bought an Airbus A321 during the Lunar New Year holiday to bring its fleet to 43 planes.

The new aircraft is the third of ten that the airline has ordered for delivery by 2010.The mostly Boeing 777s and Airbus 320-321s that make up the 48-strong fleet fly 16 domestic and 38 international routes.

Another plane is kept in reserve and only brought into service when passenger traffic from Ha Noi or Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City is particularly heavy.

Last year Vietnam Airlines carried 6.82 million domestic and international travelers, up 12.5% compared with 2005.

Its aim is to raise this number to 10 million by the end of the decade and become a truly global airline by concentrating on safety, quality and performance.
